Experimental study and comparison of different fully transparent laminated glass beam designs

Abstract Laminated glass beams without metallic or polymeric reinforcements generally lack post-breakage strength and ductility. This paper aims to perform a comparative study by testing five different fully transparent laminated beam designs in order see how parameters such as the number thickness of sheets (3 x 10 mm 5 6 mm), interlayer material (PVB Clear SentryGlas), thermal treatment (annealed heat-strengthened) affect pre-breakage performance safety. A buckling analysis is also performed using numerical model with ABAQUS CAE. The includes comparison between results experimental mechanical tests on beams, including presented this paper, well other found literature. All linear elastic behaviour until initial breakage. mainly affected crack shape beams. Beams annealed had more progressive breakage, therefore safer behaviour, than three heat-strengthened glass.
